Ken Rosewall was one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He was known for his exceptional footwork, court coverage, and all-around game. Rosewall won 13 Grand Slam titles, including four Australian Opens, two French Opens, four Wimbledon titles, and three US Opens. He also won the Davis Cup a record six times with the Australian team.

Early Life and Career

Ken Rosewall was born in Sydney, Australia, on November 2, 1934. He began playing tennis at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the game. Rosewall won his first junior tournament at the age of 12 and turned professional two years later.

In 1953, Rosewall won his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. He was just 18 years old at the time and became the youngest player to ever win a Grand Slam title.

Peak Years

Rosewall's peak years were in the late 1950s and early 1960s. During this time, he won multiple Grand Slam titles and was ranked as the world's number one player for several years.

In 1956, Rosewall won the French Open and Wimbledon titles. He became the first player since Don Budge in 1938 to win both titles in the same year.

In 1957, Rosewall won the US Open title. He became the first Australian player to win the US Open since Frank Sedgman in 1952.

In 1958, Rosewall won his second Australian Open title. He also won the Wimbledon title for the second time.

In 1960, Rosewall won the French Open title for the second time. He also won the Wimbledon title for the third time.

In 1961, Rosewall won the US Open title for the second time. He also won the Wimbledon title for the fourth time.

Later Years

Rosewall continued to play professional tennis into his 40s. He won his last Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in 1972, at the age of 37.

Rosewall retired from professional tennis in 1978. He finished his career with 13 Grand Slam titles, including four Australian Opens, two French Opens, four Wimbledon titles, and three US Opens.

Legacy

Ken Rosewall is considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He was known for his exceptional footwork, court coverage, and all-around game. Rosewall won 13 Grand Slam titles and was ranked as the world's number one player for several years.

Rosewall was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1980. He is also a member of the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame and the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.

The Ken Rosewall Arena at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre is named in his honor.
